Why La Place

Morning
Cloths go on the tables, the room gets ready, the town slowly wakes up. There’s a moment when you can sit on the terrace with a coffee and something to eat, facing the horizon, and want nothing else.
“A breakfast that makes you slow down and enjoy the moment.”

In the kitchen
The owner keeps an eye on everything. What goes out to the tables has to be fresh, well prepared and served with care. She doesn’t settle for “that’ll do”, or for what was made the day before.
If it isn’t good enough to serve with pride, it doesn’t belong on the table.

Afternoon
You’re not hidden at the end of an alley here. In front of the terrace: the roundabout, the horse carriages, families out for a walk, the sea beyond. You watch life go by, and you’re part of it. The view isn’t a bonus; it’s part of the meal.

Sunset
Some evenings, all you have to do is stay seated. A drink or dinner, someone to talk to, or just your own moment, while the sky changes colour in front of you.
Blue
Clear late-afternoon light.

Golden
The sun drops and everything turns gold.

Orange
It touches the horizon.

Red
The sky flares up over the roundabout.

Evening
Then the street lamps come on, and the evening begins.

Your day
The medina is a short walk away. La Place fits naturally into a day in Asilah.

A coffee, an orange juice, an omelette on the terrace. Then the medina, on foot.

Back from your walk: a drink on the terrace and the sunset.

A proper dinner: fried fish, paella, grilled fish, and time to do nothing.

La Place isn’t just somewhere you go to eat. It’s somewhere you go to live a moment.
Nearly 200 photos: the dishes, the tables, the dining room, the terrace, the evenings.
Who comes by Guests, waiters, passers-by.
We find ourselves returning to this place every time we visit Asilah. The food is good, particularly the seafood and prices are very reasonable. Staff is very friendly and will go the extra mile. Also a great place to enjoy a drink on the terras while watching the sun set.

Les aubergines à l’ail sont délicieuses. La paella succulente… la sole parfaitement cuite… prix très raisonnables.
Great restaurant a cross-walk away from the old medina. Honestly, the seafood was fresh and very tasty. The man who served us was nice and attentive.

The best meat so far in Morocco… the beef and vegetable skewer, with a cold beer!!!

La mejor carne hasta ahora en Marruecos… con la brocheta de ternera y verduras, y con cerveza fría!!!
The garlic, oil and herb aubergines served as an appetiser are to die for…

Les aubergines à l’ail, huile, herbes en mise en bouche sont à mourir…
It is authentic Morocco… patience please. The fish is so fresh and the staff is professional. I have been here 3x at least.

Good clean food at a reasonable price. I enjoyed watching the people pass as the sun set from the front street tables.

A small white town on the Atlantic, wrapped in 15th-century Portuguese ramparts. People come for the whitewashed lanes, the blue doors, the medina’s murals and sunsets that stop everyone in their tracks on the rampart walk.
La Place sits right across from the walls, on the other side of the roundabout. Walk the town first: you’ll arrive with the right kind of appetite.
Photos of Asilah
Six steps, in this order. The last one matters most.
Every blue door wants its photo. Let it have one.
The rampart walk follows the ocean. The Borj’s cannons still watch the horizon.
Due west, nothing between you and the horizon. Everyone goes quiet for a moment.
It happens to everyone, usually right after the last photo.
Leave the medina, cross the road: you’re at La Place.
Fried fish, a paella for two, a mint tea. And one more photo of the sky: we won’t tell.
